ABOUT MLK'S COUNSELING DEPARTMENT

Students at Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. High School will graduate with the necessary skills to embrace life by pursuing academic excellence and developing a love for learning that promotes a lifetime of social-emotional well-being, acceptance of others, academic and career excellence.  This is accomplished through a partnership with parents/guardians, staff, and community members.  All  high school counselors at Martin Luther King Jr. High School believe:

Every student can succeed.
Learning is a lifelong process.
All children are unique and should be treated with respect and dignity.
Fostering a positive self-image is the collaborative effort of the school & community
A comprehensive school counseling program is an integral part of the total education program.
The diverse needs of all students must be addressed through the school counseling program.
An effective school counseling program addresses students intellectual, emotional, social, physical, and psychological needs.
