African American Scholarships

African American scholarships are available in colleges and universities across the United States and beyond. A college education isn't confined to a textbook or how much extra credit you can receive for completing side projects or doing research for a professor. Higher education allows students to step outside their comfort zone and to develop new relationships while pursuing majors and other interests of their choosing, unlike high school, which can be considerably more rigid in nature as well as schedule. Much can be learned from someone who is not of your background and culture. This experience can be as valuable as the academic knowledge, career preparation, and training you had in mind when you enrolled. This is one of the reasons why colleges offer financial aid packages designed to fill campuses with students of different cultures, economic backgrounds and life experiences. Like other minority groups, African American students can benefit from this search for diversity. Many scholarships are available for minority students, and there are particular ones for those seeking a postsecondary degree.

More Scholarships for African American Students

Scholarship providers like to recognize more than just good grades and athletic abilities. They like to celebrate heritage and ethnicity as well.  African-American/Black (non-Hispanic) scholarships enable scholarship providers to do just that.  These scholarships are typically awarded through schools, from notable African American advancement organizations, such as the NAACP, UNCF, as well as historically African American sororities, fraternities and foundations.  Your heritage, ethnicity and race is part of what makes you uniquely and wonderfully you - so celebrate you with a scholarship!

Over 30 Grants and Scholarships for Black Students

Thousands of different scholarships are available. Merit-based scholarships are typically given to students with high GPAs or an extensive record of community service. Other scholarships may be allotted to certain groups of people, including women or minority students. There are also scholarship options for students who demonstrate financial need. Nonprofits and organizations that support the African American community, some colleges and universities, and even some major employers offer scholarships exclusively for African Americans and minorities.
